We Love Our Job!
Installing your OS without the use of an optical drive is becoming more popular, especially with the rising popularity of netbooks. Microsoft has a nice tool to make this "job" a No-brainer and make you a bootable USB-drive in just a matter of seconds. Installing your OS goes faster aswell. You need 3 things: - Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool (Download: here.)
- USB flash drive
- ISO file of a windows OS
Once the tool is installed it’s very straightforward. - Open the tool
- Select your ISO file
- Click USB device
- Select the USB Flash drive
- Click Begin copying
You now have a bootable USB drive to install your OS.
Ever
visited a datacenter? The 26th of July we had the opportunity to do
so. We went to the (at this moment) biggest Netcenter owned by Belgacom. At
arrival there was a short presentation with some impressive facts and numbers.
It really shows how they take security to a new level, taking profound care on
every aspect. As you will find redundancy everywhere, one of the most
impressive aspects is their power generation. Massive DUPS (huge diesel
engines) in two sectors who can run the whole place for 72 hours without fuel
refill. In case of the even slightest fire they will extinguish it with the use
of aragonite-gas. Humidity and temperature are controlled by equally impressive
cooling systems (chillers), as a company you can choose your preferred settings
to match your needs. You don’t need to have a huge infrastructure to benefit
from all this since your choice ranges from a couple of rack slots to whole
rooms, where your infrastructure is physically secured and again customizable
to your needs. Their careful and continuous monitoring results in fast
responses to eliminate potential risks in an early stage. But to be able to
manage all this, structure seems the important key to do so.
This
high-end security is expensive. But for some company’s the need is there, a
level which is impossible to reproduce with an equal amount of budget.

Indeed, as you can see on the picture above, WE HAVE A PINGPONG TABLE! To celebrate this, Steven organised a huge pingpong tournament in which a lot of colleagues challenged each other. The ones who did not participate, enjoyed cheering for their colleagues or prepared a delicious diner (thx Tom Smet!).
Upcoming: Pingpong final between Steven and Didier!

Last week we went to the Microsoft TechDays 2011! TechDays, for those who don't know, are 3 days packed with Microsoft Goodies. The TechDays were organised at the Metropolis Cinema Complex in Antwerp. At the event Microsoft Evangelists and Experts took the time to introduce, explain or enlighten us with their brand new products. As they are experts at what they do, they know all the tricky parts in common setups and they do an amazing job with guiding you to surpass these tricky parts. This year they focused on products for the Cloud and Consumerization. Here are some of the topics : - System Center 2012 & VMM (Virtual Machine Management)
- Microsoft Hyper-V (Dynamic Memory, Clustering, Fail-over, Live-migration)
- Office 2010 Deployment
- Microsoft DirectAccess
- Microsoft ForeFront UAG (Unified Access Gateway)
- Windows Azure
- Windows Phone 7 Development
- HTML5
- Silverlight
As you can see, a lot of interesting stuff was going on at the TechDays. After the sessions we were always welcome at the partner Expo where we could meet interesting people and win some Microsoft Kinects, Windows Phone 7s and other interesting stuff. You can expect a more detailed blog post in the following week. See you soon!
Waving our Userfull badge in front of the door magically unlocks it, but what if it could do more?
Maybe welcome you with a song?
